STRIKERS' OVERWHELMING REJECTION OF SOVIET OFFER

By an overWhelming majority "Western Berlin 's railway stnkers last night rejeeted the Russian-controlled railwav administration 's ofCer to pay 60 per cent. of their wages - in westmarks. Xinety-eight per cent. of the men vofed and the result was: In favour of the offer, 398; against, 13,477. So deeisive a majority in favour cjf continuing the sti'ike was not expected, says The Times' BerMn correspondent The strikers are demanding payment nf all their wages in westmarks, also recognition of their trade union, and their spokesman declared the strike would go on until these demands are met. Western sonrces in Berlin reported that they believed the Russians would propose meeting the rail strikers' demands for 100 per cent. payment in westmarks if the Western authorities would remove the strikers and West German police from the stations and allow repairs to be made so that the service eould be restored.
