When he awoke it was Saturday. . The ship had crossed the internat-ional date line and Friday had been eliminated. Passengers got toge'ther |nd produced the following document: "This is to certify that Stephen Leslie has been deprived of his first birthday by virtue of croSsing the international date line. We, the undersigned, hereby declare that this paper gives you, Stephen Leslie, authorization to ask Mummy and Daddy for .another birthday any time you like to make up for the one you have lost."
