WELLINGTON, June 2. Important changes in the prices charged for nieals in restaurants are contained in a price order gazetted today. The cost of a substantial meal . has, in effe^t, been inereased to 2s Gd, bringing it into line with the meal I allowances granted in several recent Arbitration Court decisions. The maximum charges for almost' everv item of food sold in restaurants have been fixed. Tliis, it was stated, is aimed ,at checking evasions of the previous price control orders by charging the customers a la carte — in- some inetances at much greater rates than the tribunal has now approved. IJnder the I new order, which is effective as from I tomorrow, hot joints and cuts with I vegetables will cost Is 9d, a bowl of | soup 3d, and sweets Gd. I Ten ounees of milk may be had for Gd and returns of milk, tea, or coffee 3d. Tea or coffee shall be supplied with and deemed part of everv meal. With some excentions no extra charge ! shall be made for bread and butter, garnishings, or vegetables supplied with every meal. | There is little change in the prices for dishes like fis-h and chips, steak and eggs, or fried oysters. The order i specifies the number of ingredients in a salad, and fixes the prices from be- , tween ls Gd and 2s accordingly.
