Mutilated Body Found In Railway Tunnel

CHRISTCHURCH. June 3. The body of a man, badly mutilated. was found in Lyttelton Tunnel this morning. So far it has not been identified, hut the police found a paper bearing- the name of "R. L. Bowles" in the pocket and a ration hook issued in Dunedin. Inquiries are being made from the rationing authorities and the police in Dunedin. The man had been wearing a brown overcoat over a blue suit eoat. He was a passenger, it is believed, in the 7.55 a.m. train from Christchurch, which had to stop in ihe tunnel when the understructure • >f the carriage was damaged. It has not been established whether the man fell from the tntin then, or whether he' left it when it was stationery.
