Five Officers For Defence Scientific Corps
WELLINGTON, June 1. Fjve- men have been selected as 1949 l^ntrants- into the New Zealand defence ■Scientific Corps, the Mjnister of Defence ■ (Mr Jones) and Minister of ■Scientific and Industrial Research (Mr MeCombs) announced to-day. The Ministers expressed pleasure that the response of well qualified p-pplicants foi the first entry last year had been maintained this year. The Sjuceessful applicants are Messrs R, M. Allan B.E. (hons.), 0. S. Graee, M.Se., (hons. in physics), A. C. Kibblewhite, B.Sc., R. D. McDonald, M.Sc., (hons. in physics) and P. M. Nottingham, M.Sc'., (hons. in cheniistry)* The gronp comprises the 1949 entrants to the corps and applicatious will be called in November next for the 1950 entrants. The applicants now selected are nndergoing serviee training for a period of up to 12 months and selected courses of study had been deeided for them upon eompletion of their serviee training. These studies will oocupy up to two years of their initial five year appointment to.the corps. Upon eompletion. of their advanced scientific training, they will be attaehed to defence researeh establishemnts either in New Zealand, the United Ivingdom or elsewhere in the Commonwealth.
