Leaping from the cab of 1}!$ truck when the brakjng systemfailed near Maungaturoto last night, Allan George Moore, ege^ "3^ married, dealer, of Ponsonby, received severe abrasions an'd ghqqk.. He was admitted to the Nqrthernl Wairoa Hospita1, where his condition this morning is regardetf as satisfactory. Moore was driving a heavy truc}?:, laden with empty bot'tles apd furniture, towards Auckland and .it was while descending a steep hiT north of Maungaturoto that thq brakes gave way. After enqeavouring unsuccessfully to change to a lower gear, he was forced to leap from the fast-moving vehicle. The truck continued for p.pother 60 yards before smashing into a roadside bank. The truck was conipfetely wrecked.
