Gladioli Club Formed In Levin
The movement in the community for the formation of cultural and hobbyist qrganjsations in Leyin tqok a further step when ten enthusiasts formed the Levin Gladioli Club at a meeting last niglit. The object of the club is not only to frnd more exhibitors for the local flotoer shows, but more to persuade pepple to grow better gladioli and have them gather in a social atniosphere at regular intervals. Last night's meedng was conyened by Mr. H. G. Smith and he Was elected to the chair provisionally. He explained that the popularity of the g'adiolus was growing and that a New Zealand Gladio us Society had been organised for some years:. Generally, gjadioii clubs met monthly and'papers were read and discussed, while it was also possible to have speakers from time to time. The election of officers was left until the nexr meeting, which will be held on Wednesday, June 15. "jhose present were as fojlows:— Mrs. E. W. Carpenter, Messrs V. G. Hunter, G, R. Maunder, C. R. Hosie, W. P. Hobbs, E. W. Carpenter, G. Wharton, G. F. Hudson (Otaki) and J. Neill (Otaki) .
