Minister's Promise About Railway Link
NELSON, Maj' 28. As ^oon as materials and 'abour are available, the Nelson section of the railway wiE be extended from Glenhope to Gowan and, then on to Murchison., That decisitm has been made by tlie ^.Government and has been eonveyed to the Nelson Labour Eepresentation Committpe in a letter signed by the Minister of Works (Mr. Semple) apd Minister of ' Behabilitation (Mr. Skinner). The letter . states that the matter had been before the Government for some considerable time and adds: "It will be remember'ed that rails and bridge girders were pulled up from Glenhope to Gowan as a war measure and were sent to Burma and the Middle 'East where they were vitally needed, none being available in Australia or any other part of the world. We have decided that as soon as materials and manpower are available to complete the line to- Gowan, in view of tlie possible development of hydro-electric works there, the relaying of the line and rebuilding of the bridges between Glen hope and GoAvan will be the first work done. When that has been eompleted we will go on with the lme to Murchison"
