"Mr. Churchill much regrets that he is unable to make any pians to travel abroad at that time owing to the coming genefal* election in England," says a lett.er from the private secretary of Mr. Winston Churchill, received by the Christchurch City Council, in reply to an invitation from the couhcil askihg Mr. Churchill to visit Christchurch during the centennial celebrations next year. Mr, Churchill expressed his thanks for the offer, which was conveyed to him for the council by thb Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser.
