Concern at the practice of some mothers in leaving their bahies unattended in women's conveniences at picture theatres while they attended films was expreised at the annual meeting. of the Christchurch branch pf the National Council of Women. A discussion arbse from a statement supplied by the Council of Old Girls' Associations. It was decided that further discussion on the matter would be held when more particulars had been Supplied by the association. Sugar Shortage. The prospects of having sugarbins full within the next week are fairly remote, according to the latest advice from thosa who know. Watersiders were still unloading part of the cargo last night. Sugar from a ship unloading in Wellington yjesterday reached many retailers in time to give customers some for the weekend. Another ship should be leaving Auckland • next week to relieve the position. a little more, but the shortage will -not be completely eased for at least a month yet.
