Constable Faces Arson Charges

Eeceived Friday, 9.^0 a.m." " LONDON, May 19. Cliiford Alexander W$allans, a 22-year-old London police constable, was charged today at West Ham Court with seven offences, alleging arson or mali'cious damage. to East London factories. The court was told that iires in two factories alone caused £64,000 in damages. In a statement read in court, Weallans was alleged to have said, £I wanted to get my own back on the Jews. I saw nany bad things done to our blokes. in Palestine and I wanted to even- things up. I am terribly sorry for all I have done but I cannot control myself." Weallans was also alleged co have said that he. had caused eleven fires and to have added, "I did all the fires for the same reason — to get my own back on the Jews." The case was adjourned until May 26. ,
