Death Of Mrs. M. A. Williams Breaks Link With Past
The passing of Mrs. M. A. Williams, six days before her 84th birlhday, saw the loss of another of the early pioneer farming community. She was well known throughout the Akaroa district, where she was born on May 6, 1865, and Little River. She married Mr. E. R. Williams, also of that district. Mr. and Mrs. WiPiams came to the North"ISland'"fesiding for Jsonie years in Eltham, later moving to Woodville and Palmerston North and in 1892 to Ohau, where Mr. Williams worked at the sawmill, then owned a«nd operated by Mr. Whiley near the Ohau Rafiway Station. In 1899 they took up farming on Muhunoa East Road where they remained for 10 years. The bush-clad farm was only partly cleared but during their activities there, a further 30 acres was cleared. Mr. Williams later farmed for a number of years at Bolton Road, Weraroa. Since ihe passing of her husband at Wanganui in 1914, Mrs. Williams spent most of her days in Levin, fiving with a member of her family. She was of a kiridly disposition and was loved by all who knew her. Mrs. Williams was a member of the Brethren Church and the W.C.T.U. The late Mrs. Williams is survived by ten sons and one daughter, Mrs. W. F. Cribb, of Levin. The sons are Messrs W. J. and H. E. Williams, Eltlmm, Mr. R. T. Wi1liams. Petone, Messrs G. R. and L. H. Williams, Levin, Mr. E. G. Willams, Auckland, Messrs E. R. and L. F. Williams, Wanganui, Mr. A. P. Williams, Paraparaumu and Mr. A. L. Williams. Wellington. Five of her sons served in World War I, and five grandsons in World War II, one being killed in action in Egypt. There are 41 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren, making a total of 101 decendants. There are a^o three sisters, MesdameS A. Alson, Palmerston North, G. Forbes, Eltham, and W. Crawford, Sydney, and one brother, Mr. H. Green, Auckland.
