Maori Affairs and agriculture were reported on by the Ministers responsible, Mr. Fraser and Mr. Cullen, respectively, at yesterday's meeting of the Parliamentary Labour Party at Parliament Buildings. It was stated later. that there was a full discussion on these two fields. The caucus will tneet agairi today. Red Cross Meeting. The Levin Red Cross held its usual monthly meeting recently there being a fair atten'dance. Following the preliminary business the Ifinal arrangements were made for the street and shop day to be held on May 31 when it is hoped to have a generous response from the pub ic. It is five years since an appeal was made by the Red Cross. Fishing Licences, Occupiers of property where shooting or fishing is permissible may shoot or fish without licences. This was clarified last night at the monthly meeting of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society when a written answer on this matter was read. It was nointed out that the privilege did not riecessarpy apply to property owners unless they were occupiers. Government House Staff. The Governor-General, Sir Bernard Freyfcerg, V.C., has made the following appointments to his staff : Military secretary and controller of household, Squadron Leader P. A fear that some of the language used during the debate on the issue of the "waterside letters" at* the fe'deration conference yesterday might not be fit for feminine ears. impelled the president, Mr. A. W. Croskery, to suggest that the women delegates present might withdraw. Some of the language used might be unsuitable for women to hear, said Mr. Croskery. All but one of the women then left the hall, temporarily, but later returned while Mr. Barnes was speaking. In Temporary Recess. The Levin Amateur Boxing and Physical Training Club advises in an advertisemen't today that owing to the Regent Hall being unobtainable for future use as a gymnasium, it will be forced to go into temporary recess. An official of the club said today that it was regretted that this steo had to be taken at a time when the club members would norma] ly be in training for the various tournaments and matchings with other club members. Every endeavour had been made to fin'd an alternative building in which to carry out training but with no success.
