Shortage' Of Matches. At present Shannon is suffering a rather severe shortage of matches. For almost a week the, majority of shops are allowing only one or two boxes to each customer, while others are completely out of stocks. The number of cigarette lighters which have made their reappearance is surprising, ' o Good, Weather For Ducks. After experiencing clear, frosty weather for the opening of the fihooting season, sportsmen are weleoming the present rain. Although the birds are still few in number, reports have been received that better shooting has been obtained over the last few days than on opening day. Complete Fence Missing. From time to time all sorts of articles go missing but an unusual 'disappearance is reported from the Foxton district, where a complete fence ten chains in length, has been removed, posts, wire and all. With reports of cattle thefts and the disappearance of a whare from another property a short time ago, the authorities are of the opinion that someone intends setting up farming on his own account.
