Abattoir Killings. Several applieations and petitions were. received at last night's meeting of the Levin Borough Council for such matters as additional stfeet Iights, footpath formlations and road improvements. The codncil decided to defer them until the estimates meeting, at which a general plah of the footpaths required to be laid will be presented and the priority of each street decided. . Playford Park Competition. Six pefsons have submitted their ideds of the perfect layout for Playford Park Domain in response to the Levin Borough Council's offer of a prize fdr the best design. At last night's meeting of the council the Playford Park Domain committee was authorised to consider the. various designs and submit their recommehdatidn to the council as to which merited the prizes It was also decided to * invite Dr. and Mrs. S. J. Thompson, who are donating part of the pfize Ynoney, to assist in the selection of the prize winning designs. Bandroom Extension. When the alterations to the Regent social hall are completed, the Levin Borough Council will pursue the question of the extension of the bandroom in Bath Street by the reihoval of a partition and 'also other work. At last. night's meeting of the council the building inspector, Mr. T. Tilyard-.-said.the work . was estimated to cost £175. The wofks committee stated that it had set up a sub-committee to go intd the question of transferring the council's depot, which at present inclUded part of the bandroom, > to the Power Stfeet depot. feefcord Issue Of Boi>ks. , The record number of 1006 books was issued ' by the Levin Public libfary on 'Thursday, April 14, said a feport feceived at last night's meeting of the Levin Borough : Council from the librafian, Mrs. M. Whitaker. During the month 47 1 new membefs were ehrolled and i also 37 junior membefs. Fifty-nine ' books were added to the library stocks. On loan from the National . Librafy SefVice were special col- ' lections on art, housing and drama. 1 Dufing the month 8246 books were ' issiied, as compared with 7282 for the same period last year. The number of artice^ washed in the laundry at Palmefston Nofth Hdspital during the past year was 1,406,432 as against 1,287,084 in : 1947-48 and 1,135,560 in the pre-I ceding year. ;
