Miers, of Stratford, former residents of Otaki, spent Wednesday here renewing acquaintances. Bright Aurora Seen. Mrs. L. Henwood, while on duty as night nurse, reports having seen a very bright aurora in hte southern sky between 12.45 and 2.30 a.m. on Friday morning. Successful Card Evening. There was the usual satisfactory attendance at the Otaki Bowling Club's pavilion 011 Thursday night for another card evening. Prizes were won by Mesdam^s Rosoman, R. Bills and O. D'Ath, Miss Petitt and Messrs R. Kearns and J. Callanan. Another Outsize Apple. Modern Adams would find it hard not to be tempted by another large apple which has been handed to "The Chronicle" Offlce in Otaki for display. Grown in the sand near Tasman Beach, with a sprinkling of ensilage for manure, it boasts a regal name, and looks a king. Prince Alfred is its name, and the grower says that the young tree which produced it had quite a good crop, buu opossums have been active in "robbing the orchard." The weight of this prize exhibit is almost li lbs. Work On Church Panels. The task of replacing the tukutuku panels at the Maori Church has been steadily proceeding, and several wahines and kuias have been constantly erigaged at Raukawa. Now comes word that the work is nearing completion, and the present rnoiith should see all panels replaced. This means that the date for the celebrations in connection with the centenary of the church can be decided on, and the local committee has met and agreed to recommend September as the month in' which a-^start should be made.
