AUCKLAND, May 13. The end of the* poliomyelitis epi* ' demie which has affected the Norch Island since November, 1947, wag, predicted to-day by the Medical Health Officer, of Auckland (Dr A. W. Thompson). To the end of April, Dr. Thompson said, one person in every thousand in the Central Auckland health district had been admitted to . hospital With poliomyelitis since the outbreak. In no extensive epidemic el'sewhere had the incidence reached two per thousand. In the 15 months ended on January 31, 1129 eases were treated, During 1948 there were 57 deaths. Newspaper reports indicatCd that the deaths since then were five. The incidencC in the eity was only half that in the rural areas.
