Lady Myrtle Sprint Prospect
- . (Special from L.M.M.) i WELLINGTON, May 13. Handy- fields have accepted for the Otaki Maori Racing Club's single day winter meeting, to be held tomorrow on the club's course at Otaki. Considering 5the amount of rain that has fallen during the week. the track is in surprisingly good condition for this.time ofvthe year and unless more rain falls by the morrow the going shonld be little more than yielding. Recent winter form is well distributed in the events, but some of the events are open to surprises. Morotai has a penchant for winning on this course at this time of season and she holds excellent prospects of leading the field home in the Ta Timi Kara Handicap. Lady Myrtle's recent form has been such as to give her a winning chance in the open sprint in spiie of her increase in weight.
The Hunters' .SLeeplechase has not drawn a strong fie-d and' Captain Jesse and Supreme Shepherd, the only two with winning form to recommend, will dispute favouritism on the machine. If he repeats his Woodville nertormance Captain Jesse will be hard to beat. Baksoon and Rockanui are the best of the others. Best form in the first Waikanae Maiden race is represented by Beauform, Felborough and Vain Girl, and if nothing unforeseen Grops np, these three should fight it out with Fe-borough the likely winner. Gay John is forward enough to give Coshona, Lady Finis, Royal Crown, High Tension and Robin's Son'g a hard fmish in the Pukehou Hack Handicap. Lady Finis is a^so freely engcged at Egmont, but if staited here* will be a strong contender. Oteki at this time of year is a happy huntmg ground for the Bulls trained Morotai. The conditions will be to her liking and with the four ou'ings she has already had this term she should be forward enough to make her presence felt in ihe Ta Timi Kara Handicap. The going will have to be better than at Woodville ro enhance Barrage's prospects. A distinct winter prospect is Ngakoti, who should revel in the going. Marlborough form gives Wild Note a chance, while Mission, , Angell and High Order are others who will not be troub ed by the conditions. However, the winner is likely to come from such good stayers as Morotai, Ngakoti, Mission,. Wild Note or Angell. Haughty Boy, Clueless and Silver Spur are the only form horses in the second Waikanae Maiden race. and unless a surprise is in store the winner shou'd come from this trio. feilver Spur, well spoken of, is said to have been working attractively of late. ^ ■ An opportunity to make amends for his Woodville failure will be given Atomic Energy in the Tainui Hack Handican. He will, however, have to be at his very best to ho d off such good form hacks as Battle Strife, Billy Ruff'n, Master Crusoe and Fox onian. It should be o keenly contested race between above mendoned horses with Atcmic Energy, Billy Ruff'n, Battle Strife and Foxtohian disputing the decision to the judge. Nelson and Marlborough form points to Lady Myrtle being a strong contender in the Taipua Handicap. AKhough up in the weights this mare is at-the peak of her form and the conditions wrl suit her. Playboy, Zealander, Carnegie, Luminous Knight and Determination are her most serious opposition. Lady Myrtle will be bracketed with Determination.' Although not a large field the concluding event, the Ohau Hack Handicap, is represented by several good form horses. The Rip reads the likely favourite, and taken on recent Ma r'bo rough form will be one of the hardest to beat. However, in Grey Arch he Will ' find strong opposition, others to be respected being Conceal, Chip, Sergeant Jack and Jimmy Wilde. The last named was a firm favourite in the Mangapapa Hack Handicap at Woodville, but ran disappointingly. Prospects for Otaki, Egmont and Waikato are:
