Eeceived Friday, 9.50 a.m.. LONDON, May VI. Police, armed wioh revolveps, vttere on duty in Downing Soreet today guardmg . the residences of the Prime Minister, Mr. D. R. Attlee, and the Gnancellor of the Exchequer, Sir Stafford Cripps. A Seotland A'ard spohesman said that the police were armed as an extra safety precaution, bnt woula not give any turther ihformation. It is understood that it was deeided lo arm them as a precaution fo lowing the high feeling over the ireland Bill. It is recalled that a campaign of violence in England b'y members of the Irish Republican Army began early in 1939 and by the summer of that year 127 outrages — 57 in London and 70 in th uovinces — had kilied one man and injured 59 and caused greai jixplosions from bombs planted ;n London and! the provinces "continued until early 1940. •
