DANNEVIRKE, May 9. Regarding the shooting incidents at Akitio on Saturday evening, it appears that an employee of Moanaroa station, Akitio, a man named "BilP' Soames, was the central fignre. Allegedly he and another man, Diek Peek, of Akitio, had been at Pongaroa during the afternoon and in the evening retnrned to Peck's home where a quarrel started. Soames ;left and went off to his station quarters at Moanaroa station. When he got to the station he alleg»edly threatened an employee, Gordon Seott, with an axe. Seott cleared off and went along to Mr. Fred -Holden's whare and told him what had occurred. Soames. arriv--ed and called on Mr. Holden to come out and when he did so it is ■ alleged that Soames fired a shotj from a rifle at him bnt missed. ! He then went along to a road- 1 man's whare near Mr. Holden's. He stayed there for abont half an honr and then retnrned to Mr. Peck's house where he fired some shots through the kitchen window. He then went back to the roadman's whare and while there Mr. Viv Barakat entered and indnced him to give np the rifle. Constable Webby, who was 011 the scene then, arrested Soames and took him to Pongaroa.
