Mr. M. B. Bergin, of Foxton, Dies Suddenly

News of the sudden death of Mr J\I. B. Bergin, eminent raeing judge, which occurred on the way home from Woodville on Saturday evening, will come aa a painful shock to his wide circle of friends and associates. Mr Bergin had earried out his official duties at Woodville and was apparently quite well. Ua the journey home, with Mrs Bergin driving, they had come through the Gorge when Mr Bergin suffered a sudden heart attack. Although all hasre was made to get him to hospital he passed away before help could be obtained. , Mr Bergin was oue of the best k^own judges in the North Island and clubs for which he was officiating ineluded the Manawaru, Foxton, Ashhurst-Po-hangina, Pahiatua and Masterton Raeing Clubs, the' Feilding, Woodville District, Hawke's Bay and Carterton Joclcey Clubs, and the Manawatu Hunt Club. He was to have been in the jud-, ge's box at Otaki next Saturday. There were many other clubs to which he gave a helping hand. In all these associations he won the highest esteem of all with whom he came in contact. His eonscientious attention to duty and his loveable personality made him a universal favourite. His passing is a very severe loss prof ession which was .his chosen career. In his home town, Foxton, he will be sadly missed for he was a tower of strength to the many organisations with which he was associated, and an everready friend to those in need. The late Mr Bergin, who was a veteran of the First World War, was twicc married. He is survived by the members of his first family, by his second wife, who was Miss Naney Robinson, member of the well-known Foxton family, and 'their son, to whom will go much sym- , to the raeing world and to tke legal patky.
