Saturday's Games In Hockey Competition
District hockey matches on Sat'urday saw Colts (5) and Te Horo (6) score over Kimberley B (0) and Kimberley A (0) in the men's secfrom the point of view of spectators (6) beat Rahui (2) and TextiJes (0) in the women's games. Levin men drew with Rahui, two all. Te Horo's experience stood them in good stead when they met and defeated a team of young players from Kimberley by six goals to nil. The game was quite enjoyable from the point of view of spectators and players alike, and a highlight was provided in the hard hitting tactics a'dopted hy the Kimberley goalie. He missed some, but it was a case of "duck or else" when he connected. He ei'ther found the sideline or put the ball back in midfield. Indications were given that with more seasoning and coaching in positional play, the Kimberley side should develop into a really good combination. Raukawa Meets Textiles. Hockey as it should be played from the spectators' point of view was provi'ded early in the game at Otaki when Raukawa beat Textiles 6 — 0. A good, fast game looked to be looming up and some of the early moves did the visitors credit. They appeared to have Raukawa slightly bustled and many of the early shots at goal went wild. Tex+.i i ps rpvea/lfiri auite eood combina-
tion, but failed to follow up and scoring opportunities were few. Raukawa, the more experienced of the two teams, showed good positional play. Both sides, however, showed a tendency to turn on the ball too much. Textiles goalie, Shirley Scott, made many fine saves, especially in the first half. . Early in the second spell Raukawa missed a score when their inner forwards failed to follow up. Soon after they narrowly missed again when their eentre sent in a nice shot that missed the net by inches. Raukawa kept up the attack and with the left wing showing to advantage, a good shot to centre saw her shoot hard only to miss ag-ain. R. Hakaraia improved the score soon after. A good run by M. Enoka saw this player centre hard and B. Norrie netted. Textiles appeared to tire in the second half and too often played the ball over their baek line, thus conceding corner hits. This hap~ pened on occasions when they had a clear field. Offside play robbed Raukawa of a further chance at the final whistle. Messrs Ralph and Mosen controlled the game. Raukawa scored four goals in the first half and two in the second. Scorers were: R. Hakaraia (3), B. Norrie, Borgia Hakaraia and M. Enoka.
