WALLACE AND SCOTT EACH SCORE CENTURIES

(N.Z.P.A.-

- Reuter 3

, Copyriffht)

Received Sunday, 7 p.m. WORCESTER, May 7. A century each by Scott and Wallace. witb Hadlee reacbing 97 and combtning in a partnership of 191 with Scott, enabled New Zealand to record the cheeiful total of 425 against Worcester. The runs were scored in a few minutes over five hours, at the average rate of 80 an hour almost nnder the shadow of the dreaming spires of Worcester Cathe dral. These was life and gusto in every New Zealand bat save for a shorx period hefore tea when the rate drop ped to 50 an hour, far more, in fact. than it should have done on a wicket which was placid and allowed a mini mum of spin until late afternoon. Worcester batted for 40 minutes to 7 o'clock and lost four wickets for 34. Cresswell, bowling to only three men on the off — slip, cover and silly mid-on — found the atmosphere to his liking. He had Cooper Ihw off his fourth bali and clean bowled Bird and Kenyon in a devastating spell. Burtij, who placed all his fielders on the off with the exception of a silly mid-on and a mid-on, enticed Outschoorn into the most elementary caught and bowled and play ended with Wyatt inclined to maltreat Burke. Altogether it was a grand, encouraging day for New Zealand.
