Received Monday, 10 a.m. BERLIN, May 8. • Lasting peace for the world hinged on the decisions reached by the Western Powers and Russia at the meeting of Foreign Ministers in Paris on May 23, the British Foreign Minister, Mr. Ernest Bevin, told a Press conference here today. Mr. Bevin, who is visiting Germany to gather first-hand information on the German problem in preparation for the IJig Four meeting, has extended his stay by one day and is expected to meet the West German leaders tomorrow. He is due to return to Britain by air on May 10.
Mr. Bevin said today: "We must devise a plan somefiow that wi 1 enable the people of Europe to come together arid grow together." Whatever was agreed at the forthcoming conference of Foreign Ministers, it would be the basis of the final peace se.tlement. He said he did not think that there would be a neace conference in the accepted sense. "To my niind the real key to peace is to get Europe settled for a coup'e of hundred years. It will take a lot of hard work and patience and the settlement of differences, and there is one thing that cannot be overlooked — the people of Europe themselves. "There will be a very difficult and delicate task ahead of us in a fev weeks' time."
