Legal Action Over New Carpenters' Union
i AUCKLAND, May 6. Officials of tlie de-registered section of the Carpenters' Union have "taken legal steps in an effort to prevent the registration of the new Auckland Carpenters', Joiners' and Joiners' Macliinists Society, as an industrial union. A motion for an injunction restraining tlie Registrar of Industrial Unions from rogistering tlie society or any other was filed in tlie Supreme Court, Wellington, and served on the Registrar of Unions on Thursday afternoon. It is not known yet wlien tlie hearing will take place. The statement ot | claim asserts that the registrar has no autliority in law to register the society or any other society as a union unlesss he is satisiied that not lcss tlian twothirds of all the workers engagod *in the locality are members of the society. It says that the membership does not, nor does that of any other society other thau the y.nion, comprise two-thirds oi all the workers. In a statement issued tonight the Minster of Labour (Mr McLagan) said he has consented under seetiou II (ij of the Industrial Conciliatioii and Arbitration Amendment Act 10.'5U to the registration of the new Auckland ('arpenters' and Joiners' and Joiners' Machinists ' Union.
