WELLINGTON, May 6. ' ' What puzzles me is why with the ■ National Broadeasting Service playing with public money they don't make some reasonable attempt to get some of Jit baek when they have artists capableof doing just that. ' ' This was the comment tonight, of Mr. Walter Midgley,. the English tenor, when he described his New Zealand tour and the lack oi publicity by the broadeasting authorities. "It seems so queer that one hardly knows what to make of it, " he said. "I am instrilcted to open in New Plvmouth. I wander up the street there and can see nothing to indicate . tha't Walter Midgley is to sing next night — • uot a poster, dodger, picture or adver tiseineut in the newspapers. "The young man at the box offiee, a uic.e young fellow, said he thought the ro vvere posters out and niade some apolo gies when I showed him the position. it wasn't his fault. Next I thought I vvould visit the cinema theatre whcre i was to sing. All the manager could say was that the theatre had been let to the N.B.S. for someone, but ■ he couldn't remember the namel Yet I was to sing there next night. Much thn same thing happeued at Wanganui, and we know about Wellington. I ean't understand it. That's all."
