April Was Favourable Autumn Month

Although one or two cold fronts were experienced in March, giving the impression that winier would be early this year, the month of April was a very favourable autumn month, according to the records of Mr. F. H. Critchley, Otaki. Particularly fine weather was experienced about the middle of the month, with a total of 16 cairn days and an absence of any severe frost or winds of gale force. The total rainfall for the month was 330 points, with rain on 12 days, the highest being on the 25th, when 102 points were recorded. Snow fell on the ranges on the 13, followed by a very heavy hailstorm on the 14. Two frosts of a mild nature were experienced, although there were many nights on which a heavy dew fell. In April last year 12 rainy days brought a total fall of 541 points, with a record day's rain of 415 points on the 20.
