Conditions At Motor Camp Cause Concern
Concern was expressed by Mr. H. W. Shortt at the meeting of the Automobile Association (Wellington) last night that the association should have £14,000 lying idle in iits motor camp at Paraparaumu. If drainage was instafled, he said. the camp would be covered by caravans in a very short time. The chairman, Mr. E. A. Batt, said they could not have a camp without shelter. Mr. Shortt said the camp was costing the association £1000 a year or more. He said he had visited camps which had been provided by the purchase of Army huts, and had been surprised to see what primitive conditions motorists were prepared to put up with. Mr. E. H. de J. C)ere said that when the association made inquiries for buildings they found that there was not a building to be bought. Dr. S. J. Thompson said the poi- ■ icy should be to get the camp earning revenue as soon as possible. It was eventually decided that the members of the council should 1 visit the camp site and resume the : disc-ussiop at their next meeting. i
