Hockey Season Opened On Saturday

Four women's teams were seen in acfcion at Otaki on Saturday, when the Horowhenua hockey season opened. Fairiy decisive victories were scored by Levin and Raukawa at the expense of Rahui and College respectively. Mrs. Henderson, at Centre forward, was the star of the Levin eleven and scored seven of the nine goals, Misses N. Tyree and R. Webber netting the remaining two. The Levin-Rahui game was inclined to be ragged, with players on both sides showmg signs of lack of hard work, aithough there were numerous solo efforts which pleased the spectators. The goals credited to Misses Tyree and Webber were ohe result of good following up. Mrs. E. Cootes, Miss M. Bevan and Mrs. L. Rzepecky were probably the best conditioned of the Kahui eieven, and showed up time and again. Mrs.. M. Seal and Mr. W. H. Ralph referee'ct this game, in which Rahui iaiied to score. RAUKAWA SHOW UP WELL. Raukawa gave eany evmence that tney wnf agam occupy a prominent piace Lhro-ugnoui, the season py their convincmg win oy eignt goals to orie at the .expense oi Conege. Misses Jill Nycerg and Joan Bagrie showed up m ,a pleasmg iignt for tne visitors an'd the goaiie a^so made many gaod saves. For the victors, Misses O. King, M. Enoka and R. Hakaraia, ana Mrs. B. Norrie, gave good disp.ays, aithough at times Miss Hakaraia earned the dispieasure of the referees, Mrs. Henaerson and Mr. Ra^pn, for offsiae piay. Goals came fairxy quickly and Miss R. HaKaraia (4j , Mrs. B. Nbrrie (2), and Misses M. Enoka and O. King were scorers for Raukawa. Miss Nyberg saved the day for College and nected a nice goal. MEN'S HOCKEY AT TE HORO. A mii'd surpnse was erfected by the defeat of last yeai-'s championsj Te Horo, at the hands of the promising Rahui cohs. Te Horo have! several new faces in their numbers' this season and their prospects will doubtiess be greatxy improved as a result of Saturday's run. Rahui fchoroughly deserved their win, however, and they too will progress j as the season a'dvances. The score was four --goals to three.
