British Machine And Farnborough Win Main Trotting Events At Awapuni's Final Day

Keen raeing and thrilling finishes marked tlie second day of the Manawatu Trotting Club 's meeting at Awapuni and highlights of tlie fine programme were the Woodfield Mernorial and President's Handieaps and the Manawatu Futurity Stakes over nine furlongs for two-vear-olds. British Machine scored fairly decisively in the Woodfield Memorial but there were blanket finishes to the other feature races, the margin between the winner, Mundanity, and the dead heaters, Mutuawa and Stuart EarV in the .Stakes being a neck, and those between the pla'ced liorses- in the President's Handicap being a head, a nose, and a neck.

The meeting was concluded in very favoura'ble weather and the course though a shade slower than for the lirst day, was in excellent order. There was a good attendanee and the totaiisator turnover was £38,124 10s, compared with £37,306 last year. The total for the meeting was £74,664, as againstl £77,674 10s last year. ; C. R. Berkett won the trainers' trophy with 17 points, R. Dunn, of Claudelands, was second with 16 points, and P. P. Gallagher, of Washdyke, and W. Cressey, of Mangere, tied for third with- 13 points.
