Street Frontage Competition. - With only a'month to go in the competition for the neatest street frontage, sponsore'd by a local business firm, , local residents are making headway to improve their residences. The competition closes on May 31 and the judging will take place in conjunction with the jubilee delebrations of the school and football club. Painful Accident. A painful accident befell John Robinson, seven-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Robinson, of Nathan Terrace, on WedneSday evening. In company with other children, he was playing on the roadside near his home when he stepped on a broken bbttle, inflicting a severe cut in his foot. Upon receiving medical attention it was found that it was neeessary to amputate his second toe. He is now progressing favourably. Gun Club Members' Success. Five members of the Shannon Gun Club, T. E. Harrison, P. K. Robinson, A. J. Smith, A. Robinson and V. Pope, competed in the recent competition shoot at Palmerston North. Although they were unsuccessful in the £10*0 prize event, A. Robinson shot a possible of ten in the first mino'r event and divided the prize. In the third minor event, V. Pope secured a possible and also divided the prize. There were over 60 competitors in these events. Accommodation Wanted. Considerable difficulty is being experienced 'in finding sufficient suitable accommodation for the the many visitors expected at the diamond jubilee celebrations of the Shannon School.' The committee would be very pleased to hear of any local residents who would be prepared to offer board to any of the visitors. Particulars of how many people could.be boarded may be handed to eitlier of the joint secretaries, Messrs J. T. Bovis and L. J. Bowler.
