• The year just ended hss been described as thc most successful cne in the history of ohe Levin-Wai .- pehu Tramping "C'ub, reflected npt only in the very^ satisf actory ba.ance sheet and nnancial membership, but in the splendid;, recoidi oits members in moun'tainee'ring, tramping and ski-ing. The annua' meeting of the ciul: was held on Wednesday nighf, when the president, Mr. N. M Thomson, welcomed an excelleni' ' sttendance- of members. Wide Range Of Trips. , Particular.y p.easing was the range of the various trips which club members made /during ,the year, commented Mr. Thomson in his annual report. All the majo ;ki-ing fie d& of the North Isffind had been visited — Egmontr twice, Ruapehu twice and Rangiwahia The Tararuas were extensivei3-. covered and members were. pow f amiliar not only with the club' s own Waiopehu and Ohau Tracks, but the Hector Track,»the Waitohu VaTey, Totara Flats, the Orongorongo, the Waiohine Gorge and the Makaretu. Some very difficult cr^ssings had been made. notablv the notthern crossing from Levin to Masterton, via Mitre Peafe the southern cross-^ ing from Otaki to Kai oke, via Mt. Hector, and also the other northern crossing from Te Matawai to Eketahuna. Th'e club had a.s i attended the ooening of. the new Tararua Club Hut at Totara Flats the new Smiths' Creek Hut opening and the combined sports meeting in ihe Orongorongo. On. all these trips, the women members of the club had been wel! represented and they had some excellent work to their credit. For the first time an official party • had made a trip to the South Is'and and successfuhy undertaken the three pass trip frcm the Waimak^riri to Hokitika, via Harman. Whitehorn and Browning Passes. ' Over and above all these trios, a complece survev and partia1 construction had been accomplished of a new allwea her route between the two Oh^u Huts in order to avoid the danger of being cut off when the river was. in flood. The financial position was excel ent, continued Mr. Thomson, and the club closed'the year with a cash credit balance in all accounts of £70 17s lld, as cpmoared with £32 14s last year. The current membership was 71, as compsred with 43 a year ago. Monthly club evenings had been held. In conclusion, Mr. Thomson expressed his appreciation of the work of aT members, making special mention of the genqrosity of Mr. L. Edwards, who had made his business premises availab'e as club rooms. These ha'd served a very useful puroose and had done much to hold ^he club together. He paid special tribute to the work of the secretary and treasurer, Misses T. Nockels and N. Fietcher respectively. The Cub later placed on record its appreciation of the services of Miss Nockels and the club captain, Mr. Edwards. Some discussion took place on the club rules. and these were*systeurtically gone through and any alterations thought necessary made. The only ride which caused any lpngthv discussion was .one which dea't with the qualifications for membership. It was proposed by one member that on'y active members should be allowe'd in Ihe club. However, on being put to the
I ^ — vote, this motion was lost, it being ifelt that to do so would restrict the membership too much. • New Officers. ; The following is a list of the officers e ected: — Patron: Mr. G. L.
