Mr. S. G. Smith, the sitting member, has been selected as National candidate for the Hobson seat. — Press Association. A kitchen tea was tendered recently by Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Newell, of G^dstone Road, Levin, for Miss V. Perfect and Mr. S. GimlDlett, who are shortly to be married. A number of useful gifts were given to the coup'e and after supper these were presented, on beha'f of those
present, by Mr. J. Honore. Mr. Gimblett suitably replied. At the annual meeting yesterday of the meat and wool section of the Manawatu provincial branch of Federated Farmers the following officers were elected: Chairman, Mr. T. M. Ryder; deputy chairman, Mr. J. Linklater, of Newbury: executive, ohe delegate from each branch; delegate . to Dominion Meat and Wool Council, Mr. Ryder; hill country delegate, Mr. W. J. Galloway, of Otaki; nominee for electoral college of Meat Board, Mr. Ryder.
