Manawatu's Meeting Opens

The Manawatu Trotting Club's meeting was opened under favourable conditions. The weather was dull bnt fine and the conrse was in, excellent order. The attendance was good but the outsize fields probably had something to do with the £3569 drop in the totalisator tnrnover which was £36,7,39^, eomp^red with £40,308-| last year. The racing was good and there was several substantial dividends. In the last race,' as the field swung into the home stretch there was a bad smash involving four horses. ,It appeared that General Manager pnt a foot through the wheel of a sulky bringing down Loeknit. Substitute went over them and Volo's Victory had to be pulled np.
