WELLINGTON, April 22. Members of the erew on strike who were aboard the Canadian ship Tridal" at the time, were arrested by the poliet and taken into custody this afternoon. Between 20 and 30 police under Su.i Inspector Abel, went to the wharf where the Tridale is berthed and tliose taken into custody i'rom the ship went away quietlv in three police patrol cars. Later six other members of the crew who were in the city, were taken to the police station. Tweuty-three members of the crew later appeared in the Magistrate's Court. After being on strike for somc days, it was alleged the crew refusctl to carry out an order given this niorn ing by their captain. Informatious were laid immediately on belialf of the vessel 's owners, the Triton Shipping Company, Monteal, and warrants were issued for the arrest of 27 men. The whereabouts of tliree was not known by the time the Court sat but oue member of the crew was stated to be ir hospital. The aceused pleaded not guiltv through their coufisel, Mr. P. -C. I' I McGaviii, who asked that the liearing I be adjourned one weelc. After consultation .with couusel fOr the informant, Mr.. E. D. BlundelJ, Mr J, S. Hanna, 8.M , agrocd to adjourti the ease until Wednesday. Mr. McGavin's request for bail was opposed bv Mr. Blundell on the grounds that the accused Were actively 011 : strike and were str&ng'ers to the coun- ■ ir-rlt q *e ■ : Mr. Ilanna deckled thgt bail be granted in eac'h cqse on a bond of £ob j 1 and that the men slrould report daily ; to the police until Wednesday.
