SAMPLE OF WHAT THE WEST CAN EXPECT
Received Friday, 7.20 p.m. ' NEW YORK, April 21. The crippling of the Amethyst ar.d the drpwing of other British warships into an exeliange of fire with Communist shore batteries, add a serious note but are most important as an indicator of what is ahead for the Western Powers in China, says the New Yot'k Sun in -an editorial today. "The Communists, whether in China or anywljere else, are. no respectors of persons. especially representatives of the dentocracies. Whether, like the Amethyst, they are engaged in humanitarian mis-
sions or whether. they seek peaceful, trade, representatives of the West who venture into that part of China under Communist domination are unlikely to find themselves welcotne. Whether at this late-da£e and under a Government of uncertain strength, any of the present Nationnlist terriory (ean be saved from the Communists is uncertain. The rosumption of hostilities points to the faet that the uneertainy ' may soon be dissipated. "
