Anzac Day Arrangements
The Shannon branch of the Returned Services' Association has made arrangements for the observance of Anzac Day in Shannon. They are similar to those of past years. AI1 returned personnel, members of J-Foree, the Home Services' Association and the Red Cross will parade at the school not lafcer than 10.10 a.m. The parade will fall in and march to the- Cenotaph, headed by the Horowhenua Pipe Band. A halt will be ma'de at the- South African War Memorial for the laying of a wreath. At the Cenotaph wreaths will be laid by the R.S.A., the citizens of Shannon,, the H.S.A., Red Cross, the Women's Section of the R.S.A., the Women's Institute and other organisations and individual citizens. From the Cenotaph the parade will move off.to the Renown Theatre after filing past to drop their poppies on the base of the "Cenotaph. At the theatre the usual Anzac services will be held, coiiducted this year by the'Rev. Ashworth. The presi'dent of the R.S.A. (Mr. F. O. Burtt) and the Mayor: (Mr. D. A. Fitzgerald) will . also' address the gathering. Following the services all returned persopnel, whether members of the R.S.A.,:or not. have been'invited to attend the Anzac dinn.er ' arranged by the ladies ",of .the. Women's Institute, and to be hel'd in the Druids' Hall. It is expected that the parade will arrive " at the Cenotaph at 10.20 a.m. and the service at the theatre will commence at about 11 a.m. In the Ven. Bede's Anglican Church on Anzac night, Rev. M. J. S. Wheeler will be cond.ucting a special . memorial service and the public is invited to attend.
