Plunket Society Holds Annual Meeting

The annual general meeting of the Shannon sub-branch of the Plunket Society was h^d in the rooms, Stout Street, recently when the president, Mrs. L. Wilson, presided over Mesdames J. A. Eastpn, E. Jorres, F. Edmonds, R. R. Lind, U. Dujany, M. E. Barber, D. A. Fitzgerald, W. Tricker, Rogers and C. Tremewan (secretary) . Apologics for absence were received from Mesdames F. Denton, J. P. McNeile, W. C. Higgie, R. J. Miers and Coghlan. Mrs. Wilson extended a welcome to Mesdames Smaill, Clentworth, Sutton, Hocking, Stannard, Lett, Chainev and Stewart, who were present as visitors from the Levin branch of the society. - In her annual reporfc, Mrs. Wfson outline'd activities during the year just completed, and stated that the most important item on the social side was the garden party held in the grounds. of Mrs. F. Edmqnds' home on December 4, this function. | being both an outstanding social and financial success. The .proceeds from the party amounted to o-ver £34. The usual annual street stall had not yet been held owing to the' war memorial carnival. However, a special committee meeting would decide the date later. The number. of financial members enrolled with the sub-branch was 50, this being the same -number as for the patt . two years. During the year Nurse Hight, who had t been the Plunket nurse for some" years, left on retirement and Sister McMillan was .welcomed as the new nurse, continued the report. A farewell function was accorded Nurse Hight on December 18. Mrs. Wilson then extended the ' thanks of the committee to Nurse. Hight a'nd Sister McMillan for the efflcient and eonscientious work ' which they had done during the year, to Miss E. Roach for providing lunch for the nurse each week, to Mr. C. M. Ci'onquest for auditing the books of the sub-branch, to Mr. and Mrs. F. Edmonds and .to the mothers and residents of Shannon and the surrounding district for their support during the year. The president also extended her sineere thanks to her committee for the invaluable assistance given her during the year. Nurse's Report. In her annual report, the nurse, Sister McMillan, stated that during the year visits had been paid to 135 homes, while 613 adults, 592 ba-bies an.d 32 pre-school children had visited the rooms. There had been 25 new babies during the year. The balance sheet was read by the treasurer, Mrs. C. Tremewan, and showed the branch to be in a good financial position with a credit of over £40. The special Karitane account had a credit of over £93. On the motion of Mrs. Barber the balance sheet was adopted. Officers Elected. At this stage of the meeting Mrs. Smaill took the chair and called for nominations for the various officers, and the following were elected for the coming year:— Patron: Mrs.. E. L. Hyde; president: Mrs. L. Wilson; vice-presidents : Mesdames R. R. Lind, F. Edmonds and E. Barber; secretary and treasurer: Mrs. C. Tremewan; committee: Mesdames J. A. Easton, J. P. McNePe, F. Denton, R. J. Miers, W. Tricker, D. A. Fitzgerald, W. C. Higgie, U. Dujany, E. Jones, H. Williams, R. N. Coghlqn and H, Rogers; hon. auditor: Mr. C. M. Cronquest; advisory board: Dr. R. Collier, Messrs D. A. Fitzgerald, R. R. Lind and F. Edmonds; delegates to Karitane conference: Mesdames L. Wilson and C. Tremewan. - Mrs. Wilson then resumed her duties as chairmah and thanked those present for re-electing her to the high office of president. She also thanked Mrs. Smaill for taking over the duties of chairman during the %lection of officers. A delightful afternoon tea was served by the members, after which a short committee meeting was4 held to finalise matters in conjunction with the shop day and the conference, it being -decided to .hold the shop day on Friday, April 29, and arrangements for this were accordingly put in hand.
