Auckland Factories Plan Buttermilk Powder
AUCKLAND, April 20. With no fewer than 18 dairy, companies in the Auckland province alono planning to manufacture butteimilk powder, this by-product of butter maKing is likely to assume an important place among New Zealand's exportabie commodities. An offer by the Britisn Ministry of Eood to buy powder on a bulk eontract basis, was made known to dairy eompany representatives by the ehairman of the New Zealand Dairy Produets Marketing Commission, Mr. W. Marshall, at a meeting in Auckland today. Although the price offered by the British Government for buttermilk powder was not disclosed, after tne meeting it was deseribed as "'favourable. ' ' The companies have been askea to notify the commission within four or five weeks whether they are prepared to accept_ the British offer.
