Concluding a fortnight's holiday recently, a well known local farmer had occasion to ride in a tram and, when moving back in a crowded compartment, ;• inadvertently stepped too far back, landing wedged very securely in a baby's pram. Being of robust dimensions, four fellow passengers had to "remove" him from his newly-found seat. Information Please! A daughter of a local resident who has numerous calls made on his time was a little taken back on Monday last when, on answering the phone, she was greeted with the following: "Would you ask your father what's on at the pictures in Levin tonight." Just like that. Dad was surprised. too, but after; the first shock it is reported that, with commendable promptitude and civility, the desired information was furnished. Lucky Escape. Motor-cycles are not often smiled on by horse riders, and a happening on Monday afternoon did little to help win favour. for the cyclist concerned. Two valuable thoroughbreds were being ridden along Tasman Road by their diminutive riders, when a motor-cycle is reported to have overtaken them and "opened out" his throttle. In the huiabaloo which followed, one rider and one horse parted company, with both sprawling on the roadway. Luckily, scratches and bruises were the only injuries suffered, with the motor-cyclist continuing on his way. ■
