Received Tuesday, 8.45 p.m. NANKING, April 19. The Communists claim that they will cross the Yangtze % April 25, reports , t.hq , N atj.ppfl.iist ' m.i&t^ry news agency. Three Communist a^my groups are coneentrating 011 two i^lands in the Yangtze northward of Nanking and 15U 1 miles southwest of Nanking. \ Alessages from Chinkiang today said a fullscale battle was in progress last night on the Yangtze line about 5D miles east of Nanking following the lirst major Communist attempt to cross the river. Latest dispatches said more than one ■ division of Communists in abont lUOu river eraft, advanced last night towards the south bank from Hohuneheh Lsland but (lid not sueceed in establishing a foothold. Hohuneheh was taken by the Communists 24 hours earlier and is about 12 miles northeast of Chinkiang. Uneonlirmed press yeports from Shanghai said today that the Nationalists may move the Government tempor-' arily to Shanghai if Communist troops should cross the Yangtze, preparatory to tr^nsferring to Canton.
