Metal Pit Extended. Arrangements have almost been eompleted with, the land owners for the Horowhenua County Council to purchase a further five acres of •.and adjoining the county pit at Weraroa. This will give a great deal more metal far roading and maintenance purposes. More State Houses to Start. i The firm of contractors building .State houses in Winchester Street will next week commence the erection of a further 20 units in the :iiew subdivisiqn in Queen Street East. Depending on supplies com•ng to hand, it is expected .to ( have i.he frames of the first houses up within a fortnight. There is a likehood that a shortage of cement will cause a problem. Country Planning Sch.eme. The preparation of „an extra urban planning scheme "to 'cover the Horowhenua county is to be applied for by the Horowhenua County Council. This decision was reached at the council's meeting on Wednesday. Cr_ D. K. Guy, who put the. motion, forward', said that the southern end of the county was badly iirwneecT of such a scheme. He thought that the three boroughs, Levin, "^Shannon and Otaki, should be ineorporated, and suggested that ;steps be taken to ensure "that thisr was done when the scheme came about. Football Club's Social. The first of the Athletic Football Club's monthly socials. was held in the St. Mary's Hall this we.ek. There wa's a good attendance of piembers and supporters and all present had an enjoyable time. The M.C. was Mr. I>. Collier, who conducted competi'tions and games, while the music was supplied by Mrs. Campbell. The winiiers of the lucky dances were Misses G. Doyle and E. Matulich and Mr. B. McLennan. Socials will be hel'd on the first Wednesday of each month in St. Mary's Hall.
