Otaki Borough Council's Monthly Meeting
The monthly meeting of the Otaki Borough Council took place in the Council Chambers on Wednesday night, when the Mayor, Mr. C. F. Atmore, presided. There were also present Crs.' K. S. Arnes, N. D. Anderson, E. J. Cook, H. W. Haka"raia, G. McKinley and J. L. Retter. The district engineer of the Works , Department, Wellington, wrote for further information regarding the laying off of a new street off Mill Road, and it was resolved that this be furnished. A letter from the sbcretary of the Otaki Volunteer Fire Brigade pointed out the inconvenience caused as a result of the unsealed poruion of footpath in front of the fire station, and a request that it oe seaied was acceded to. ' The Horowhenua Rugby Union forwarded a cheque for £5/19/1, a share of the gross takings at Otaki during the last football season, and also a copy of the union's balancesneet for perusal. The health inspector, Mr. W. J. Guinan, reported- that during the quarter January to March he had paid 15 visits to habitations and food-selling premises, and had Sorved five requisitions. Six samples of milk had been taken and two of water. Inspections of new drainage work at various places had been made, andi htotels and the motor camp had been inspected, as nad the rubbish sites. A complaint about offal causing a, nuisance had peen attended to, as had other detail matters. The Traffic Inspector, Mr. C. L. Davis, submitted a report showing that six drivers had been tesied for iicences during March, and also that seven prosecutions were pending.
