Unclaimed Gratuities Between four and five thousand ex-servicemen "had not yet bothersd to collect their war gratuities, said the Director of Base Records CMr. R. S. Woganl yesterday. The majority of these were for small amounts. Some applications were still being received, ..but there had oeen no pronounced increass as a result of 'the recent appeal to exservicemen to close or transfer cheir accounts. County Qrader Hours The Horowhenua County Council's graders had worked. for 546 hours on the district roads during fche past mopth, reported the engineer, Mr. W. H. Fraser, to yesterday's meeting of the council. These had been distributed as follows: — Tokomaru riding 169 hours, Whirokino riding 232 hours and Otaki riding 145 hours. At the conclusion of his repoft the engineer conimented that the new Galion 202T diesel power grader had been deiivered. Novel Health "Stam^s" Sweden had it&, campaign to raise money for the health of children, but instead of selling stamps boxes of matches with appropriate and beautifully-illustrated covers were used. For the period of the campaign these matches sold at "above the normal price', the balance going to the campaign fund. Miss H. Iris Crooke, directorT general of the Red Cross V.A.D.'s, told this to members of the Levin Red Cross on Tuesday, * when speaking at the'anniial meeting of that' body.
