Rat Causes Fire
WHANGAREI, April 12. As a result of a rat coming in c-oii-tact with a 2200-volt switeh, the borough council's electric sub-station nar rowlv escaped destruction earlv tlris morning. The engineer was phoned b\ a bakehouse employee that the power had gone off. An investigation reveal ed the large switeh room full of smoke and' the switeh burning furiously. An asbestos barrier dividing the switeh from another, was partly burned throngli. But for this barrier which was installed as a safety device, the substation would have been destroyed. As it was power to all parts of the borough was eut off till a temporary connoction was made.
