State Paper Industry To Be Established

,j»:- WELLINGTON, April 11. The Government has decided to go ahea^ wth the establishment of a large scale*pulp and paper industry inainly fqr the" production of newsprint, in the Murupara district about 30 miles from Whakatane in the Bay of Plenty area. This was announced today hy the Commissioner of State Forests, Mr. Skinner, who has received favourable reports on the.project from Mr. W. H. Rambo, consulting sawmill engineer, of Portland, Oregon, and from representatives of the Rust Engineering Company, U.S.A., who recently visited New Zeaiand. The reports were very voluminous doeuments, said Mr. Skinner, and ineluded blueprints of various sections of | the project. They would take a lot of examiuation and would ■ have to ' be thoroughly studied by New Zeaiand engineers before final details of the scheme could be made public. In its final form, he added, the industry would consist of a sawmill integrated with the installation necessary for the production of pulp and paper. '"The scheme," he said, "will be proceeded with as so'on as the reports have been investigated to the satisfaction of the Government."
