Farm Machinery Units From Dollar Sources

WELLINGTON, April 11. The eurrent survey being eonducted by Pederated Farr^era for the purpose of detailihg to the Governmeiit the dollar requirements of New Zeaiand farmers in tractors and other farm machinery units, would close on April 27, said ,Mr. E. G. Buckleton, ehairman of the federation's Dominion aetion eommittee, in a statement today. Mr. Buckleton emphasised t'hat the survey covered only machinery which farmers considered had to be provided essentially froin dollar areas. The survey had been highly satisfaetory and to date had shown that requirements for farm machinery next year were very mnch greater than had been anticipated. There was an obvious desire on the part of farmers to increase production in order to fulfill promises made to Britain at the time' of last year's bulk agreements. The actual .increase secured, however, depended upon efficient farm eqnipment. The federation was urging an early deeision, partieularly on dollar licences to be made available to importers. Farmers, too, wanted to seeure the partieular equipment they needed now, said Mr. Buckleton. Overseas contract prices were likely to recede in view of the international production situation and it would be tragic if the opportunity were not taken of buying while our produce prices were at their peak. *
