Levin R.S.A. Entertains Women Helpers
The non-arrival of the Wellington R.S.A.'s. Tin Hat concert party, booked for the Levin R.S.A.'s ladies' evening on Saturday night, nearly ' spelled calamity for the association, which had gone tp consi'derab'e trouble to make the evening a success. The versatility and sportS'manship of some of those present, who stepped into the breach and voiunteered items, saved the situation and turned the evening into a most suceessful one. The idea of a ladies' evehing originated last year when members' wives and friends were invited to an entertainment for the visiting Australian ex-servicemen. It proved so suceessful 'that it was decided to institute an annual evening to which the ladies would be invited, particularly all those who had helped the association in its activities. Also invited aS guests were Mr. E. J. iStanley (manag.er) and 20 boys from the Levin Training Centre. During the evening, the president, Mr. N. M. Thomson, apologised for the absence of the Tin Hat concert party, weicomed the visitors and thanked them for their work for the association over the years. A varied programme constituted the evening's entertainment, Mr. Stan Atkins leading Gommunity singing with Mrs. E. R. Myers at the piano. Violin solos were given by Mr. J. Evers and Mr. E. * R. Myers fascinated the audienc'e with his lightning sketches on paper. A humorous sketch was given by , Mrs. L. M. Hair. . Refreshments and an attractive supper were provided during the evening.
