BARRAGE WINS PRINCIPAL RACE AT LEVIN
Tbtalisator Turnover Sets New Club Record The Levin Racing Club's autumn meeting was held on Saturday under very favourable conditions and new high level records were established. Highlights of a day's fine racing were the many close. finishes, "W. L .Aitken's "ha't triek," and the totalisator turnover which, at £61,585, set a new record for the club. The course was in ektellent order and although the going wasiiot particularly fast some really good times were recorded. The feature races were won by Barrage and by Air Belle and in each race the margis. was rlervisive.
The meeting was held in delightfully fine weather and there was a very large attendance. The totalisator turnover was £61,585, compared with £56,365$ last year, the increase being £5219$. The Maiden Race was run in divisions, Cadwallon winning the first from Haughty Boy and First Offence, and Tharariche the second from West Wall and Fellah. Wejst WaU, whicn is trained at Awapuni, paid a gooa double-figure place dividend. Haughty Boy set most of the pace m the first division and he led to tne straight from First Offence, CadwalJbn, Philanderer, Clueless and Brilliance. The fmish was a good one and Cadwallon won by a neck from Haughty Boy a head in front of First Offencfe> Lionne Rouge and Brilliance were next. Tharariche led from end to end in the second division and after being clear into the straight drew right away to win by eight lengths from West Wall which, seventh into the straight, finished solidly to beat Fellah, .whieii finished fast, by a nose. Enwill, with Sir Oswald in second place into tne straight, was a close fourth and Chief Ofiicer and Legal Document were next.

Grey Arch, from, Otaki, won the 'Apprentices ' raqe after a keen tussle with Foxtonian, Koscarea and Conceaf. Dandy Nihth was slow t.o leave the mark and' Roscarea led at the half-miJe from Grey Arch, Conceal, Lackagh, Surrender, Palais Glide, Foxtonian, Announcer and Chip. Grey Arch and Roscarea were together into the straight and a furlong from the line Foxtonian raced up on the outer. The finish was a good one and Grey Arch hung on to win by half a length from Foxtonian half a head in front of Roscarea. Barrage had complete charge at the distance and he did not look Iike being beaten. Imperial finished splendidly but was over a length from the winner at the finish. There was a blanket finish to the Waitarere Hack Handicap and the winner was Run Bahadur from Master Crusoe and Bar Garrette, the placed horses going past in line. Master Crusoe, Cheerful Night and Action were in front early and at the six the field was in close order. Running to the straight Master ' Crusoe, Cheerful Night and Action were in line ahead of Bar Garrette, Run Bahadur and Closeburn. Inside the distance Run Bahadur and Bar Garrette joined issue with Master Cfiusoe and -in" a punishing finish Run Bahadur got the decision by a> nose from Master Crusoe half a head away from Bar Garrette. Cheerful Night was fourth followed by Action, Bright Siiver and West Wall. W. L. Aitken rode the winner and it was his third win in succession.
