WELLINGTON, April 4. The Waterfront Industry Authority has gone into recess until the Government has decided whether commission control on the waterfront is to be abandoned. This action was determined by a majority decision of the Authority announced by the ckairman, Judge D. J. Dalglish, after a meeting today. The Waterside Union representatives, Messrs H. Barnes and T. Hill, dissented from the deeision, declaring that they could not continue members of a "socalled judiciai body whose decisions can be overridden at will by a Minister." After a stormy meeting at which the employers' representatives, Messrs K. A. Belford and T. A Marchihgton, and the chairman took one view and Messrs Barnes and Hill another, the chairman handed the following statement to the Press: — " The Waterfront' Industry Authority, at its meeting today. gave consideration to the contents of a letter recently written by the Minister of Labour to the seeretary of the New Zealand Waterside Workers' Union concerniug stoppages of work 011 the waterfront at various ports in New Zealand. The Waterfront Industry Authority passed a resohition deploring the tnany and unwarranted stoppages that have occurred 011 the waterfront and reminding the Waterside Workers ' Union of its pledge to the Government to aceept the decisions of the Autlr ority to carry on work without such stoppages. 'Messrs Barnes and Hill, who previously moved a resolution in different terms, desire me to express their dissent from this resolntion. The Waterfront Industry Authority has decided to adjouru until after the Government — which set up the Authority — has determined whether or not commission control of the waterfront should be abandoned." • . . .
